For tourists looking for a different experience, one of the best places to visit is the Okanagan Valley which is a region in British Columbia where visitors can enjoy winter sports activities during the cold months, swimming and sailing during summer months, and cross-country cycling to explore the valley’s natural beauty.

With many tourist destinations in Canada, Okanagan Valley stands out from the rest as it is the only place in the country which has a desert. However, it doesn’t mean that this region lacks in natural beauty—one the contrary, it has beaches, lakes, beautiful orchards, and breathtaking mountain view.

Activities for Tourists

Camping

The place offers many camping grounds and RV parks, most of which are near lakes. Aside from these, there are more than 60 provincial parks in the valley which allow visitors to camp and hike from mountains and forestry.

Swimming

During the summer months of June to September, tanning, swimming, and other water activities are very popular in Okanagan Valley with its beautiful lakes scattered across the region and city beaches in Penticton, Osoyoos, and Kelowna.

Cycling

Cycling is probably the best way to explore the untamed beauty of the region. Fortunately, there are several cycling route for tourists that will allow them to see the thick forests, beautiful valleys, wildlife, and miles of wineries.

Meanwhile, the best time to do bicycling is between the months of April and October when the weather condition is not too hot and not too cold.

Skiing and other winter sports

There are several ski resorts in the valley which have been considered as world renowned for its perfect slopes, challenging terrains, and luxurious accommodations.

Aside from skiing, tourists can also enjoy other winter sports such as snowmobiling, dog-sledding, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

The Okanagan Valley has been considered as a golfer’s paradise with its more than 50 courses, most of which provide a breathtaking view of the mountains, vineyards, orchards, or lakes.

There are several local museums in Okanagan Valley which mostly display artifacts. Meanwhile, most of the museums and art centers are found in Vernon, Kelowna, Osoyoos, Summerland, Armstrong, Penticton, Peachland, and Westbank.

Aside from exploring the natural beauty of the Okanagan Valley, tourists should also visit the city of Kelowna which has many pubs and nightclubs. However, most of these establishments are already closed at 2 pm, quite early compared to other nightspots in the country.

Unlike other urban areas, Kelowna has maintained its cleanliness and natural beauty. Because of this, the city’s main attractions are pristine beaches, lakes, and beautiful parks.
