Teotihuacan is a captivating ancient ruins which is located 40 km northeast of Mexico city. Usually visited by foreign and local tourists who want to see some of the largest pyramids in the world, this place is also popular with its restaurants including the Restaurante La Gruta which is located inside a subterranean cave.

Teotihuacan, also called as the “City of Gods”, is a historic archeological site approximately 40 km northeast of Mexico city. This Aztec ruins has also large pyramids that were built to honor the gods who were believed to be the creators of men.

These are the four main attractions of the ancient ruins:

Temple of the Moon

This is a medium-sized pyramid which can be found from the center of the ancient ruins.

Temple of Quetzacotl

Considered to be one of the most sacred temples in the Aztec ruins, this temple is adorned with several stone dragon heads which are revered creatures during the ancient time.

Temple of the Sun

This is the largest structure in the ancient ruins that gives tourists a breath-taking view of the surrounding mountains.

Museo Teotihuacán

This is a museum that lies within the park that showcases miniature structures of the Aztec ruins and ancient relics that shows the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the early inhabitants of the region.

Apart from these main attractions, there are also smaller man-made structures which are nonetheless breath-taking and interesting. To see these structures, tourists may hitch hike or travel by foot.

One of the most interesting of these is the Palace of the Jaguars, which is near from the Temple of the Moon, that shows a wide collection of wall paintings, sculptures, and other works of art, and underground rooms.

Gastronomical site:

A visit in Teotihuacan is not complete without tasting the region’s exotic and mouth-watering delicacies. Meanwhile, these are some of the most recommended gastronomical sites tourists should not miss.

Restaurante La Gruta

This restaurant, located on the eastern part of Teotihuacan, is an exotic place to eat since it lies deep down from a subterranean cave with two large holes on the side where a natural light enters.

Apart from its mouth-watering menu and a vast collection of wines and beers, this restaurant has also been popular with its Mariachi band and Aztec dancers.

Museo Teotihuacan

Inside the museum, there is also a restaurant that serves exotic food and traditional Mexican dishes.
